10–12th May 2017 at thestudio

A 45 minute Workshop by:

Kevin Rutherford

The XP Surgery

About this Workshop

This session will take the form of a guided conversation on the topic of clean code. A possible question set might look like this:

  1. What does "clean code" mean to you? (round robin)
  2. What problems does clean code solve?
  3. Is it subjective?
  4. Must it have tests?
  5. Does test code need to be clean?
  6. How can you make clean code work for teams?
  7. Does clean code look different in different languages or frameworks?
  8. When might dirty code be acceptable?
  9. How do you discover dirty code?
  10. How can you convert dirty code into clean code?

About the Speaker

Dr Kevin Rutherford is a software development coach and extreme programmer working for the XP Surgery. He is the creator of the vastly under-rated Reek code smell detector, and the vastly over-rated book 'Refactoring in Ruby'. If you have ever used Unix System V or taken out a mortgage in the UK, you have unwittingly used his code. He now spends much of his time teaching and mentoring senior developers throughout the UK in software craftsmanship. His Erdos number is 3, and he was using vi before you were born.
