About the session

How do you align a newly formed team around delivery metrics & get them to see the value of metrics?

While the team estimates for sprint planning, there's nothing else they are referencing or talking about. You also have no idea about their attitudes or experiences of how they've worked with metrics previously. Yet you will need these metrics to manage stakeholders’ expectations.

I stepped up into a head of delivery role in September and found myself having to set a direction and expectation around the use of metrics.  This talk will cover how I took on this challenge as someone new to a head of delivery role.

Starting with a summary of the kick-off workshop I ran to get a read from the team, how we agreed on what to focus on, the journey of bedding in metrics - which will be fresh as I'll be actively doing this Jan-May 2023 - as well as reflections on my own journey as a leader delivering on delivery metrics. I hope this talk will reassure and encourage others to embark on this journey, as there are still a lot of teams not leveraging the benefits of metrics.

Participant Takeaways:

  • You don't need to be a metrics expert to make progress on metrics
  • How you can get alignment & team buy-in for delivery metrics
  • Applying an MVP & iterative approach to bedding in metrics
  • Building confidence in having a data-driven approach to delivery
  • Any improvement in a team is still a team endeavour
